TEACHING YOUNG PEOPLE
Dancing Words -
performances and residencies for schools
Johanna offers an educationally inspiring and creatively engaging program
that brings poetry to life. In her performances and residencies, Johanna
uses interactive stories, poems and dances to spark interest in the
arts and engage students’ imaginations. Students leave performances
smiling, inspired to write poems and make dances that tell the stories
they live. Residencies culminate with showings and/or publications of
student work.
Grrrls Speak
Ranging in age from 11 to 14, the group meets every Monday afternoon
to tell the stories of their days and spin words and movements into
tangible, subtle art. Johanna founded this group six years ago with
9-12 year old girls, and watched the group grow up as the girls did,
settling finally into the 11-14 age range. Each year a different and
uniquely its own group forms and works together for the full year, publishing
a book of original writing and producing a full-length, grrrl-created
performance of dance, theater and spoken word. Click here

TEACHING ADULTS
Fearless Solos -
Workshop for adults
In this weekly class, we'll explore ways of sourcing material for solo performance, and ways of putting our work into our bodies and into the performance space. We'll draw from a variety of movement, writing and physical theater exercises to create embodied performances that tell our stories and speak our truths. Come play with your marvelous voice, your exquisite body, your ordinary stories, your reliable mistakes, your words whispered from behind closed doors, your name shouted from a mountaintop. More info
